Simple Truths for Physical Health

healthy peopleI enjoy finding trends or patterns in all things, but particularly movement and physical health. This reductionist thinking continues to support myself and our patients in long term health and creating a joyful relationship and balance with the need for physical training. In my third career I was a personal trainer with a client base as diverse as my patient base now. Many people had injuries, struggled with exercise, and had lives out of balance with their needs. Admittedly, I was training on the east coast, which I have found to have a much worse balance between work and personal life. Here on the left coast I have the pleasure of working with people that enjoy much more of the world around them and are happy to turn away a little extra money for a little more fun.

As a personal trainer I was already striving to simplify people’s lives to be more productive and efficient with their time in the gym. The fitness industry has a veil of doing more and achieving more which remains mostly unchanged even a decade later. The original writing was sent to my clients as a means of nudging them away from this idea of doing more and moving towards the idea of doing smarter, better, and simpler. The writing is posted without edits. It was originally written sometime around 2010 or 2011. I feel there is very little I need to change.
